Twitter Investors Decide To Ignore Drop In Quarterly Profit

AFP via Getty Images Twitter made a significantly smaller profit in its fourth quarter than it did last year, due to an increase of expenses. That reality didn’t much dampen investors’ mood on Thursday as they sent the shares up 7% in pre-market trading. The Nasdaq, however, is almost flat. Fourth-quarter net income was $182 million, which is down from $222 millions. It didn’t offer any specifics about what led to the surge in costs: Expenses topped $1.4 billion, a 35% increase. Wall Street had figured Twitter’s profit would actually increase—to $290 million. Sales, though, matched Wall Street expectations: $1.7 billion, which will likely further ease concerns that changes to Apple’s iOS software will hurt Twitter’s digital ads business, still its core business. For the year, Twitter stayed in the red, losing $220 million—down over $1 billion last year—while bringing in $5.1 billion in sales. Twitter is currently in transition. Parag, chief technology officer, took over from J...

Simplifying the Customer Experience

Simplifying the Customer Experience Creating a simplified customer experience is one of the top priorities for businesses, but how can you make it happen? A great company is always seeking to simplify the customer experience for its customers. A seamless and pleasant experience keeps customers coming back for more. Here are five tips, recommended by Alexander Djerassi , for building a more seamless and simplified customer journey. Focus on the front-line employees. They are the people who work with customers every day. They know their preferences and needs and convert first-time customers into long-term ones. Understand your customers’ needs. In the age of consumer information overload, determining what your customers want is no longer a simple task. You should know their wants and design your products around these needs. Creating a simple customer experience is like choreographing a dance, but you need to prepare before performing it. Simplifying the process doesn’t...

A tale of two teams – and their fans – Nielsen

The word Fan The word “word” is the source of this phrase Fanatic enthusiast, which is usually a spectator. And on Sunday, February 13, there will be inspiring moments both on the field and on screen–for fans around the globe to experience.  It’s not surprising that the NFL is the most loved sports league in America. In 2021, 92 of 100 most-watched telecasts were either NFL live games or NFL studio programming. What is surprising, however, is that the two teams headed to Super Bowl LVI rank 27 and 29 (in terms of the number of fans) among the 32 teams in the NFL. It takes more than fans to make it to the big games. Despite the excitement surrounding the end of the season, both teams are likely to win some fans. While this is a tale of two teams, it’s also an epic matchup of two dynamic quarterbacks And They were the conference winners. First, we have the Cincinnati Bengals: an “against all odds” team with an offensive Rookie of the Year wideout, an All-Pro ru...

Multiple-set TV households provide an array of access and choice for content-hungry viewers – Nielsen

Filmed in 1985 Back to the Future , there’s a line in one of the scenes that takes place in 1955 where Marty McFly tells his grandmother that his family has two TVs. As he’s referring to his life in 1985, his grandmother quickly dismisses him, saying that “nobody has two television sets.” Multi-set households have become the norm in 2022. Only 19% American households have only one television. Regardless of prevalence within the household, the TV remains a media mainstay, complementing the growing array of other devices that consumers use to access whatever content they choose—and on their schedules. Freed from a physical dial’s worth of content (another 1955 reference), today’s TVs have all the flexibility in the world when it comes to content, and American households are consistently evolving how they use their TV sets, and that usage varies from room to room. The current average TV in a U.S. house is now 2.3. And much like back in 1955, almost half of the TVs in U.S. homes today ...

Why short-term sales don’t always mean long-term success – Nielsen

It is not something that anyone likes. It’s human nature. And the fast-paced nature of our lives today, amplified by the speed that digital connectivity facilitates, only heightens the pressure to move faster—in all facets of our daily lives. This is also true for business. Connectivity and digital technology, as well as high-speed communications, inherently speed up the pace at which we work. Marketing is no exception. Yet depending on a brand’s goals, it might be time to make some adjustments. Brands have hundreds of options to choose from when they think about their marketing technology, and they’ve leaned into these options heavily in recent years. For a long time, conversion-focused advertising has been the industry’s favorite. That digital focus grew even more when the pandemic hit and mass media campaigns were cut back by brands. Digital growth-focused strategies, regardless of COVID-19, drive sales for this quarter. Importantly, a focus on near-term sales—and the abili...

Why focusing on the entire marketing funnel is key for long-term brand growth – Nielsen

Brands of every size and industry saw their marketing budgets decrease after the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020. Many brands had to halt or reduce their brand awareness campaigns as a way to cut costs. The brands refocused their resources and bandwidth on engaging existing customers, rather than trying to win new ones.  Because they inspire immediate action from consumers, lower-funnel tactics like these are attractive when markets are uncertain, and marketers want to be able to continue reporting results to leadership. That said, forgoing upper-funnel priorities (like brand awareness) on account of a delayed return on investment isn’t sustainable for long-term brand growth.  Marketers have learned to recalibrate their tactics to not only address our new realities but also pave the way for future success. Balanced marketing strategies are essential to address growth. This means that upper-funnel branding efforts should be used in conjunction with lower- and mid-funnel activities...

Social Media Influencers, Beware What You Post

Brand and product influencers can post on social media as part of their job. getty Social media posting is a part of the job for brand and product bloggers. Influencers need to take care of what they share. It is easy to create unneeded controversy in today’s highly politicized world. This can have a negative impact on one’s ability to influence others and bring in advertising dollars. A poorly written post can get a lot more attention, but brands don’t want to be associated with someone who is not trending. Be sure to recognize influencers on social media. It is social media by nature and users must expect others to see their accounts. Even if a person’s own immediate network isn’t upset by a post, users should think about how other people – such as their colleagues or clients – might react to it,” warned Colin Campbell, assistant professor of marketing at the Knauss School of Business at San Diego. Even if an influencer is trying to make...
