The accounts contained non-public US and European information. According to reports, the data was stolen via an API vulnerability. It was then shared on a hacker forum. Although the vulnerability is reported to have been resolved, security experts also disclosed another large, more serious data dump of millions on Twitter. Bleeping computer reports that data obtained from the internet includes scraped public information, private numbers and emails addresses not intended to be publicly. A bug was used by multiple threat actors to steal private information. HackerOne found the bug earlier in the year during a bug bounty. However, it’s not just happening in the United States. Fair Betting Sites conducted a survey and found that 41% would abandon the platform. Musk is only one of the factors that may be causing a Twitter exodus among young people from the U.S., UK and elsewhere in Europe and Asia. Since early 2016, Twitter has experienced a steady decline in the number of users who are both Millennials and Generation Z. A YPulse study earlier in the year found that Twitter’s declining popularity among young users, aside from a slight increase in March 2018, is part of a continuing trend. On a platform with just 238 million monetizable users according to Twitter’s most recent public earnings filings, that would be quite a feat. It would require that one fifth of all Twitter users subscribe to it. Contrast that with YouTube’s 80 million subscribers on 2.6 billion users — and a strong value proposition in terms of music and videos — and it looks even tougher. Twitter’s most recent earnings release states that the company had $1.2 billion in revenue for Q2 2022.
