Future Uses for Spatial Computing Technology

Image
Spatial computing technology is an extremely influential technology that will change the way that humans see, hear, and touch their surroundings. It allows people to interact with 3D data to create a virtual simulation of the world, whether it is completely computer generated with virtual reality (VR)  or overlaid with digital aspects, as found with augmented reality (AR). While spatial computing is still in its infancy, it will only continue to grow more complex in the future and perhaps someday be completely indistinguishable from true reality.  There are a lot of future uses for this technology in a myriad of sectors of society. Experts are anticipating a complete restructuring of the way that we work, educate, and entertain ourselves with the help of augmented reality. For example, workplaces may become completely digitized as holographic calls and desk-less workspaces become the new norm. This will enable companies to become globalized as workers operating in comple...

Twitter Users Falsely Say Jacksonville Shooter Manifesto Was Released

The Dollar General Store where three people had been shot the day prior. … [+] (Photo by Sean Rayford/Getty Images) August 27, 2023, in Jacksonville, Florida. Photo by Sean Rayford/Getty Images Getty Images Conspiracy theorists on Twitter spent the weekend insisting the racist shooter in Jacksonville, Florida who killed three people on Saturday was part of a “psyop” somehow organized by the U.S. government. As evidence for the theory, many far-right accounts said the shooter’s manifesto was immediately released, while other left-wing shooters have had their manifestos withheld. What’s the only problem? That’s simply not true. “Anyone else notice how we got the Jacksonville shooter’s manifesto within hours of the ‘racially motivated’ incident, but we still don’t have the Nashville Trans Terrorist’s manifesto 5 months after they murdered Christian schoolchildren?” one account known as DC_Draino tweeted on Sunday . “It’s a simple explanation: One boosts the regime’s raci...

How Often Should I Update My Company’s Disaster Recovery Plan?

Updating your company’s disaster recovery plan (DRP) should be done on a regular basis. It is important to keep the DRP up-to-date and ensure it reflects any changes in infrastructure, technology, personnel or processes that have happened since its creation or last update. Frequency of Updates The frequency of updates should depend on the size of your organization and the complexity of its IT infrastructure. For smaller companies or those with simpler IT environments, a DRP update may only be necessary annually. However, for larger firms or those with more complex IT systems, quarterly updates are recommended in order to keep up-to-date with any changes that have occurred. Review Your Disaster Recovery Plan It is also important to review the DRP after major events such as a cyber attack, natural disaster or power outage to ensure that the plan is able to effectively cover any potential threats. Additionally, DRPs should be tested regularly to ensure they can be properly...

Facebook surpasses 3 billion monthly active users

Image
Facebook surpasses 3 billion monthly active users Facebook has more than 3 billion monthly active users, according to Meta’s latest quarterly report. That’s quite the staggering number. Even though Facebook has declined in popularity among younger people, the platform is far from dead. Across Meta’s entire family of apps — which includes WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and now Threads — there were 3.88 billion monthly active users. That’s almost half of the world population. Milestones are fun, but perhaps more importantly for Meta and its investors, daily active users have continued to grow too. Facebook has 2.064 billion daily active users, up from 2.037 billion last quarter. That growth is pivotal, because in the final quarter of 2021, Facebook reported its first-ever quarterly decline in daily active users. This growth could be driven in part by Reels, the TikTok copycat feature that Meta has been pushing heavily across Instagram and Facebook. According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerber...

A new study found that Facebook’s Pages and Groups shape its ideological echo chambers

Image
A new study found that Facebook’s Pages and Groups shape its ideological echo chambers New research published Thursday offers an unprecedented dive into political behavior across Facebook and Instagram — two major online hubs where people express and engage with their political beliefs. The studies, published by an interdisciplinary set of researchers working in tandem with internal groups at Meta, encompasses four papers published in Science and Nature examining behavior on both platforms around the time of the 2020 U.S. election. The papers — only the first wave of many to be published in the coming months — grew out of what’s known as the 2020 Facebook and Instagram Election Study (FIES) , an unusual collaboration between Meta and the scientific research community. On the academic side, the project was spearheaded by University of Texas Professor Talia Jomini Stroud of the school’s Center for Media Engagement, and NYU’s Professor Joshua A. Tucker, who serves as co-director of its ...

‘Crazy Plane Lady’ Offered Apology On Social Media

Is this actually Tiffany Gomas — The “Crazy Plane Lady” or are we seeing another hoax? YouTube Social media has certainly captured some individuals at their absolute worst—and a result; it can be very hard to live down the bad behavior. Tiffany Gomas, the 38-year-old marketing executive from Texas who became infamous on social media last month after she urged the flight crew to let her off an American Airlines flight from Dallas to Orlando, has certainly learned that the hard way. This week she issued an ostensibly heartfelt apology, which she also shared to social media. However, the 2:15 minute video, which has been seen some 21 million times, has received much mockery, with some questioning her actions as well as the validity of the apology. And in an almost ironic twist to the bizarre tale, some users are now making the claim they don’t believe the video recorded and posted by @Tiffany_Gomas is actually the same person who went viral for her unhinged rant, ...

Meta Gives EU Users More Control Over Their Facebook And Instagram Feeds

Manan Vastsyayana/AFP Photo via Getty Images AFP via Getty Images Meta makes changes just days before deadline for users to feeds within the EU to ensure compliance with Digital Services Act. By August 25, the company must comply with the DSA. This requires that platforms classified as Very Large Online Platforms give their users the choice to turn off personalized feeds and return to an algorithmic feed. TikTok took a similar step earlier in the month. It removed personalized results from its For You page and automatically opted users aged 13-17 out of receiving personalized ads, based on previous activities. Nick Clegg is the president of Global Affairs. He says that the DSA “is a huge deal, not only for European technology companies, but also for tech companies operating in the EU. It will have an impact on how Europeans feel when they turn on their mobile phones and laptops.” EU users will only be able view Instagram Stories or Facebook Reels of accounts that th...

Nathan Laine/Bloomberg © 2023 Bloomberg Finance LP Elon Musk says he’ll pay the legal fees of anyone who’s been “unfairly treated” by their employer for posting on Twitter, according to a tweet sent late Saturday. Is that the only problem? The billionaire owner of the site hasn’t made clear how people should reach out, let alone define what “unfairly treated” might mean. “If you were unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform, we will fund your legal bill. No limit. Please let us know,” Musk tweeted on Saturday night . Twitter’s management, now known technically as X, after Musk switched the name, is a source of constant controversy since Musk acquired the website for $44 billion in October 20,22. Twitter has not responded to the questions that were emailed on Saturday night. I’ll update this post if I hear back. The...

AFP via Getty Images This summer marks 50 years since the U.S. Senate Watergate Committee heard the first hearings about the White House audio system. However, one such audio recording—later known as the “Smoking Gun” tape—documented the initial stages of the Watergate cover-up, where President Richard Nixon was heard formulating a plan with White House Chief of Staff Harry “Bob” Haldeman to block the investigation. Nixon’s political backing virtually vanished over night once the transcription was released. It is highly unlikely that this will happen regardless of what Jack Smith, Special Counsel, may have expected from the former president Donald Trump’s @realDonaldTrump Twitter account. Court documents reveal that Smith received a search order earlier th...
